I know I put a lot of dark/bleak anime low in this ranking, but there are a few I really love! I don't like stories that are dark because someone is being an evil jerk or whatever, but I'm actually a huge fan of stories that are dark because of immutable facts in the setting or character motivations that are impossible to reconcile for whatever reason. Stories that are just, like, here's the situation, and there's no right answer even if everyone has good intentions and tries their best. I love exploring situations like that.
