Stages like High-Tide Ride and Cliffside Slide are just on another level for the genre. Retro got so ambitious with the levels that went pseudo-3D, I really wish we'd get the successor to this game that doubled down on the experimenral camera work. The whole game is a masterpiece of the genre, but those courses stuck out on this replay as much as they did my first couple times through. Found this replay disappointingly easy though, strangely enough. For example, I beat every boss my first try, where I know my first time through the world 4 boss and the final boss took me like an hour each. Maybe even though it was 8 years ago, one playthrough on hard is enough to stay permanently with you. Guess if I want the challenge, it's time to replay hard mode next! Also I just realized I abused the shit out of Dixie's combo attack for the extra hearts the whole game...hard mode is going to destroy me. --- Feel the sadnesss of the Earth, and I close my eyes.
