The Devil's was a rendition, so for that, it's fair.

However, we know what Johnny did, because the song tells us Johnny sang that verse as is.

And, to be quite frank, it was shit. I find it hard to believe the Devil, with an entire band of demons in support, lost that one, whereas Johnny sang some hillbilly nonsense and didn't even have a great fiddle section to go along with it.

All that said, the Devil was the judge, and he personally bowed out in defeat. You can't be more decisive then that.
