Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online https://myanimelist.net/anime/36475/Sword_Art_Online_Alternative__Gun_Gale_Online Spring 2018 (12 episodes) My Score: 4/10, MAL Score: 7.00/10 Best Character: Shinohara Miyu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tULaW49codU Premise: Kohiruimaki Karen is a shy college student in real life. In the Gun Gale Online virtual reality game, though, shes LLENN, and known as the Pink Devil for her skill at killing players. The Good: I dont hate Sword Art Online like a lot of people do (though I do hate one arc). I like the setting quite a bit, so it was nice seeing GGO from a new perspective without any of the life-threatening drama the original series always had. LLENN is a fun character and there are decent action scenes. I also like the concept that most of the season follows a tournament. The Bad: I hated how a few of the characters were written, particularly Pito. She sucked a lot of the joy out of the season for me. Otherwise, I just dont have a whole lot to say about this anime. I remember when it was airing that a lot of people thought it was much better than the original. I found large parts of it to be boring and pointless. Ill admit that I dont remember it very well anymore, though. I also have zero desire to rewatch it ever again. Overall: SAO Alternative is much better than the fairy arc from the original Sword Art Online, but Id rank it below every other arc from the original without much thought.
