This is the first time the game has made me feel bad for killing a boss, and I have to admit I've been starting to wonder what the deal is with some of them. After the early beastly demons, the bosses have been getting more 'human' as it were. I'm not sure why Ornstein and Smough attacked me, they seemed to be guarding the princess but she's on my side so that'd be a weird bit of miscommunication. Were they hollowed? And I don't know what the deal is with Sif, but if the game keeps going down this road... man. Definitely read all the flavor text of the items and equipment you find. You'll get a lot of backstory that way... and you'll probably feel bad killing more bosses... andylt posted... I've been meaning to ask what the deal is with covenants, is it an online thing? Because I don't see what I actually get out of joining them other than the initial membership ring. Yeah, most of the covenants affect how you play online. While technically you can level them up and gain the bonuses from them offline, most of them are harder to do so that way. For the Forest covenant if you join in it you can invade and hunt down people who go through the forest area.
