I hadn't heard of that! Looks cool. I have to admit, I don't really like roguelikes tho... (I'm a content tourist, don't make me play level 1 repeatedly, developers!)

OK time to jump the shark:

#38 Bubble Bobble (NES Version)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/0/3/AABIPnAADlZT.jpg

Bubble Bobble is one of the most perfect video games ever made. For example, the song. The game has one song. It doesn't need a 2nd song, because the first song is perfect!

The bubble combat system is great. It's like Doom 2016's glory kills and "push forward combat", but Bubble Bobble did it first. Get in there and stomp that bubbled enemy, or else they're gonna come back MAD AS HELL.

Each level is one-screen long, and there are 99 of them. There's something secretly more fun about that. Each stage becomes a little "combat puzzle" for you to approach how you wish. It's something I always wished Pac-Man did--have 100 different mazes. You don't even need to design them well, it would just be more fun!

It's actually a really silly game, almost Katamari levels of silly, because of the absurd number of cute little item pickups--I swear they randomly generate new sprites and functionality every time you play. Let me pick up this bible, OH LOOK now we're in a mini-game where we have to collect cookies for 15 seconds.

BEST LEVEL: Stage 43 (seen above), because it has the two pits where enemies/corpses fall infinitely.

(Warning: Take this ranking with a grain of salt, because I played this game with friends and family, which is always a blast, even with a bad game.)
