#40 Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/0/3/AABIPnAADlP7.jpg

The best combat of the sotn-style castlevanias. Spells and melee attacks are all equipped interchangably, and you always have TWO equipped, one to each hand. AND you get to set up 3 loadouts and you can hotswap between them, which is fun to strategically set up, so you can be ready for any situation.

With so many abilities equipped at once, it's the farthest the series has gone into diablo-ARPG combat territory--except a little more adaptive than that, since you're swapping more according to the situation. Usually in ARPGs (and Castlevanias), you just spam the most OP combo you can, until you reach the next OP combo

But the best thing is this: there is a particular moment about halfway through the game, where something emotional occurs, and suddenly the rest of the game lays itself out, in front of you... and it's a huge surprise explorable area for you to devour, nearly the size of entire other Castlevania handheld games.

This part of the game ROCKS, it's like a victory lap send-off for the entire handheld series. Musically too--one of my favorite songs in the series in in this back half of the game. Music is the best part of Castlevania.

BEST LEVEL: The library area where Empty Tome plays. Library levels are always fun in Castlevania, but here it's a sea of books, and pages are flying everywhere as you walk.
