maybe portrait yeah that'd be pretty good. Buuut then you don't get the satisfaction of filling in a really big map...

3rd highest metroidvania on the list:

#41 Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

What if you make a metroidvania, and just throw ALL THE FEATURES into it? Forget simplicity, forget elegance, just THROW IT ALL IN.

Equipment appearing on the character, cooking, quests, crafting, secret bosses, findable weapons/spells, secret button inputs, guns, joke equipment, familiars, hair customization, moving train level, bonus playable characters, stat upgrading, everytime you think you've seen it all, you find ANOTHER FEATURE.

Turns out, there's no time to decide if each system is good, you're too distracted by all the other systems! It is a beautiful disaster of an experiment, and I love it.

I think the balance of the game, helped make this work. The bosses take quite a lot of hits, so you're really encouraged to engage with the systems like cooking, to get stronger, which makes bosses die faster.

God I really hate the story though. It's so boringly dry. I'd say Bloodstained:CotM has a better story--less is more!!

BEST LEVEL: The train level. Did not expect a train level in a Metroidvania. And not the other gameplay twist within it, either.
