Best Character: Momoi Kenzou

Premise: Yamagami Lucy is one of three employees joining the civil service. The work is boring, the clients are angry, and their mentor has no idea how to train them, but they all do their best.

The Good: This an adaptation of a manga by the author of Working, another workplace comedy that I enjoyed quite a bit. There are a few things Servant x Service gets right, like slowly introducing zanier elements and weirder characters. Ichimiyas angry sister was fun, but the best one was Momoi, the branch manager whose shyness drove him to pilot a bunny robot.

The Bad: The core characters in Servant x Service are boring. Yamagami Lucy, for example, has a hundred first names, and she joined the civil service to find the person who let her parents put that on a birth certificate. Shes explicitly out for revenge, which sounded fun and unique. Too bad she never puts any effort into trying to find them and her name is used as a punchline and to give her an inferiority complex. Mostly shes just such an airhead that she doesnt realize shes being sexually harassed. Hasebe, meanwhile, is a walking sexual harassment lawsuit and I didnt like him at all. Saya had the same joke over and over, old ladies came to the office to chat for hours. Chihaya likes cosplay. Ichimiya is spinless. These are the main characters and every single one of them has like one thing going for them.

Overall: My favorite part of Working, or any ensemble comedy really, is having a large cast that can work in different combinations. A situation with characters A and B will play out differently than the same situation with X and Y, and its fun seeing what the author does with them. In Servant x Service, however, everyone was so boring that the characters barely worked as concepts. They also kept encountering the same situations, often with the exact same jokes.
