I only played the Remastered version so I never experienced it myself, but apparently one of the reasons Blighttown in the original version sucked so much was because the framerate dropped like a rock in that area. So making your way through those rickety platforms while being sniped at by poison darts was much more difficult than it had any right to be.

Consider yourself lucky you didn't die to the Basilisks (the smoke breathing frogs). If you do your HP is cut in half until you use a really expensive/hard to get item to cure it. It happened to me in my first two playthroughs and boy oh boy did that suck.
