When I lived in Sierra Leone my house was infested with bats. They mostly lived in the ceiling, but when the organization I was working for dictated my house was below their living standards (despite every other house in my town also being infested with bats), they decided to seal the gaps between my corrugated roof with cement. This caused the bats to start coming INTO the house. I killed a couple and a bunch of men with machetes came into my house and started slapping bats too. This did not solve the problem. One of my rooms literally became like a bat cave, with clusters of hundreds of bats nestling in the corners. I ended up just closing the door to that room and never using it again.
