Though I'm not sure how much you'd like the original either since that can be a bit heavy handed also. That said, reading what some people have said about both I could easily see them as just having destroyed the series also. This reddit comment in particular is very worrisome The fact is that they're different. The 2003 show followed solely Kino, and was more about philosophical and ethical questions.
