Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen wants to get rid of monosodium glutamate, commonly known as MSG, from its chicken by the end of 2025.

The company initially planned to get rid of MSG by the end of this year. However, due to the supply chain crisis, it seems to be delayed by three years. The company says that they are working towards building a new menu without artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.

We are currently testing all-clean ingredients in our batter, breading and sandwiches in a few U.S. markets and we expect to be on track to an all-clean menu nationwide by 2025, the company told Bloomberg. We had hoped to achieve this earlier, however our process of testing new ingredients and getting extensive guest feedback on recipe changes has been slowed down by a challenging supply-chain environment.

Chicken is a prevalent product across all fast food chains globally, and MSG usually goes along with it; McDonalds introduced a crispy poultry sandwich last year, which also has MSG in its fillet, and sandwiches from Chick-fill-A also consist of MSG. Nonetheless, restaurants are always looking for better ways to deliver a flavor that is loved by many whiles at the same time maintaining a good healthy balance.
