If 2 + 2 = 10 then why do we multiply it by 4?

Can you help me out?
Here is the question. It says that 2 + 2 = 10, that should be 10. However, it says to multiply it by 4.
Why do we multiply it by 4?
Thanks.

A:

There is no multiplication here.
The book means that if you were to write the same addition as
$$2+2=10$$
it would be wrong, because $2+2$ is an addition and $10$ is a number. So it is a mistake in a book or on a worksheet.
What the book is trying to get at is that you can not add or subtract two things and make up a new thing.
When the book says that you should multiply, they mean you have to rewrite the thing.
