The weak roster of underused or otherwise really rare pokemon to help actually let you get all the pokemon in your Gen 3 games, while having a lower power level so all the bosses would be that much more of a threat. I used a Yanma in my playthrough - it was not worth it. I found that the game encouraged me to use Pokemon I otherwise would not used.
