I never really understood why it was elevated to the level of "ultra mainstream popular" with the other big songs that non-VGM listeners often bring up. Most of the other songs in that category I can see the appeal or agree that they deserve to be there, but I simply don't find this song that praiseworthy. Disclaimer: The fact that this VGMC match is going against one of my top songs from my favorite soundtrack is a literal coincidence; I have been thinking this about Aquatic Ambiance for over a decade. It's not just match commentary. It's pretty hard to explain. For me, it's a very mesmorizing and relaxing piece. It's borderline hypnotic, but in a good way. It also has a pretty solid rhythm carrying the whole piece through as well (the percussion is pretty solid in addition to the other instrumentation).
