I love motoi sakuraba! Something about how even the tight chords wind up being expressed clearly even thru gritty 70s aggressive organ is really neat feeling. Ive grown to like spanish guitar more because of getting into ace combat music to a greater extent than ever before recently for sure
You kno, listening to this right after sakuraba, i just realized..this track is very mario golf toadstool tour ! it probably comes across more like that to me than it does to paper mario. Its the brass that does it but some of the other stuff in combination sells that to me too
This track actually has very little correlation with what I typically like about pso2 music..i do love proggy things like this, i always make that clear, but with pso2 my fixation is usually harmony or sound design rather than erratic rhythms. I like erratic rhythms, so Im not complaining! Its just almost like total coincidence that something i love for the reasons i love this track, is in the same game as all the songs i like for serene electronic landscapes or its really specific chord/melody-interaction style (which id consider this totally dissimilar to). This one reminds me of shnabubula especially because its so 9/16 (an odd timesig he self-admittedly overuses), also i swear that the synth effects towards the start are like the same thing as the laser beam sound effects in the parts of the Jimmy Neutron PC game with the yokians and that association is very funny to me

I always like this track more than i remember. dark funk is cool, and the mixture of swing/straight stuff on top of each other and/or alternating with each other always feels so neat
The instrumentation and emotional intensity of this track is stellar; interestingly it reminds me of yoko kanno and i associate max galactica in my head as the person who likes yoko kanno and hiroyuki sawano, until just now i never really comprehended how much it makes sense that if you like one of them that its likely youd really find a lot to see in the other too. Anyways this match is very difficult for me, VERY close. i have spent quite a while listening back and forth and still am not quite decisive!
