Most of these are likely steam exclusives, and a lot can't run on a toaster, sorry.

The first I've talked about before, feel free to skip this first paragraph.

I came across a couple really promising games in the last couple days that have really impressed me. One of which is from 2015, called Celestian Tales: Old North.
It has mixed reviews, but it seems to be one of those games that is really bigger than the sum of its parts. It's also mercifully short, like under 8 hours on average.
I'd compare it to the PS1 game Suikoden 1, not in terms of "ooh, I get to collect over 100 party members, watch my collection number go up," but more in terms of how the writing and the dialogue is really ahead of the curve for video games, and has aged unbelievably well, has really beautiful art, and has a really beautiful soundtrack!
Unlike Suikoden 1, the combat isn't super generic, and repetitive. I'd sorta compare it to Saga Frontier on the PS1 if you've played that, only a little more simplified.
It's on sale for less than 2 dollars as well!

Please, at least consider looking into it, as I'd really like to discuss the game with others that have played it.

On a side note, these aren't on sale for cheap, but I've played some of them, and I think they're worth putting on your radar. They're very Fire Emblem-like!

And here's some other games worth putting on your radar:

This game feels like a Metroidvania version of Xenosaga. The demo boss was pretty challenging too!

Back to games that you can buy that are on sale right now:

Metal Themed First person souls-like. Unlike the last 2 games, it's out, and on sale!

This has been compared to HOMM3

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1656780/Heros_Hour/

This is supposed to be really great, interactive cyberpunk fiction!

Bethesda developed first person horror rpg. Watched a friend play it, it's so damn atmospheric and immersive!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1475810/Ghostwire_Tokyo/

Challenging love letter to Past Era Pogeymans!

This is my GOTY so far. Really unique, dark fantasy take on an alternate dimension wild west. Super similar to Fallout 2 in that it's Isometric, and a lot of quests really let you use your imagination to resolve questlines. It's $10 off, on sale for $30!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1097350/Weird_West/

Card Based, story heavy rpg set in a town that feels similar to one that you might find in The Witcher 3. Played a little bit of it, and it's so damn good! On sale for $15

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1138660/Black_Book/

Redfall inspired Souls-like side scrolling souls-like RPG that's pretty challenging. Once again, really immersive atmosphere, and narrated by the VA behind Geralt from The Witcher. It's got some really great plot twists too!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1283410/Tails_of_Iron/

And I figure that's plenty!
