Well, instead of him retiring to make room for Ketanji Brown Jackson, we'd be looking at Stephen Breyer dying and getting replaced by another Republican justice to make it 7-2 instead of 6-3, since Mitch has learned he can just hold a seat open indefinitely when the GOP has control of the Senate.
