I didn't even use one in the games, but I don't think anything quite descripts Pocket Monster for me as much as Bulbasaur does. While I do like Squirtle a lot and Charmander is aight, Bulbasaur just sells what Pokemon is so much more than any Pokemon, including the paths of evolution. I have a large stuffed Bulbasaur that I won at a fair in first grade.
