He was just the first to openly be willing to say it, which, to be fair, is a form of charisma. I'm not saying he's utterly devoid of the stuff, just not special.If someone like Ted Cruz had said the same things as Trump, it would've been 1/10 as effective. Trump somehow has the ability to make the lowest common denominator think they're just like them. Probably because he has the overconfident swagger of a manchild who doesn't know better - which yes, resonates with quite a few people in the US, white males especially. To them, Ted Cruz is always going to be a suit, no matter what he says. Trump is 'relatable'.
