in Looper, your younger self is basically a voodoo doll for your older self, so depending which way you look at it it can be either a forwards or reverse voodoo doll, almost... except that really, both of you experience the injuries... but then that's true with a voodoo doll as well. the person doesn't experience the damage _instead of_ the doll, it experiences the _same_ damage as the doll.

so, I guess "damage happens to the doll instead" is not really the same thing as a voodoo doll effect

it is like the Dorian Gray effect though, where an inanimate object receives the negative effects of the person that it is attuned to, instead of the person receiving them. (though in that case it is aging and not physical damage, I think (not sure)).
