I've literally watched my roommate go through twelve different men she's tried to date and they have been, exclusively and undeniably, weirdos or assholes once you got to know them better. Now granted, probably three of them she should have known better, but I am dead ass serious here. All mid-20s to mid-30s with jobs and cars. All absolute fucking losers. Most through dating sites but a few through personal connections.

Ironically, the only guy that is probably a good fit for her that I've seen is engaged to someone else (And their relationship is taking a dive). She works with him and I know they got close to physical intimacy before they made some boundaries. Ah, forbidden love.

Now, this is not a man only thing--Plenty of women are horrible dating candidates too. A lot of men will just put up with misery for some strange though. Still, I really don't think many of these relationship-challenged dudes realize what the dating landscape is actually like for women. Having lots of options sucks if nearly all the options are inadequate.
