So, what would happen in 1958? Looking it up, the group stage had Wales Draw 3 consecutive times: Hungary 1 - 1 Wales Mexico 1 - 1 Wales Sweden 0 - 0 Wales Because the goal differential rule was not implemented then, Wales and Hungary played a playoff match to determine second place, and advancement to the Knockout Stage. There, Wales would win: Wales 2 - 1 Hungary The Knockout Stage would end Wales run however: Brazil 1 - 0 Wales [Also, on a side note, wins counted as 2 points in the Group Stage instead of 3.] --- Warning, the self-destruct system has been activated, all personnel should evacuate immediately, 5 minutes to detonation. ...
