Didn't have much time for anime this weekend, but I rewatched the first season of Umamusume: Pretty Derby. I ranked it a 5/10 when it was airing, so not exactly a favorite. Still, it has a second season I've never seen so I figured I should rewatch S1 first. Good thing too, because I enjoyed it more as a binge than I did when it was airing. There are dozens of different horse girls with little quirks and relationships. Watching it over two days really helped with keeping them all straight.

It's such a goofy premise, horse girls who mirror real world horse racing history and then the winners do idol shows for some reason. Still, the ability to have such goofy premises and treat them relatively seriously is one of my favorite things about anime. Lots of the characters are fun too, if not especially deep. I like Special Week. I wonder what the second season will do with her because, as far as I understand, the first season covered the real horse's whole career. Maybe it'll follow her retirement as a stud (or whatever the female equivalent is).
