Another bit of World War II trivia: the BBC would often begin its wartime radio broadcasts with the opening few notes of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony (the well-known "bum-bum-bum BUM") because if you convert this into Morse code as dot-dot-dot-dash, you get the letter V, in this context symbolic for "Victory." ...
