So let me tell you my A Wonderful Life story.

When I started the game I didn't have any kind of general idea who I wanted to marry, so I just sort of gave gifts to everyone and felt like I'd figure it out later. It wasn't until about late summer that I realized I really liked Nami. She was the most interesting out of all the girls, and I found her personality and backstory to be the most compelling. So I focused all my efforts on her and started only giving her gifts.

Now, in A Wonderful Life you HAVE to be married at the end of the first year, and if you're not married by year's end you'll automatically get hitched to the girl you have the most compatibility with. Even during late Winter Nami had been turning down my proposals, but I wasn't worried because I had only been focusing on her for half the year, so I assumed she would be the default candidate for the automatic marriage. The year ended, I saw a cutscene where my character hears a knock on door, and he opened it to find... Celia.

Somehow, despite the fact that I had stopped trying to court her, Celia turned out to be my most compatible bachelorette. It seems that Nami is so hard to get to like you, and Celia so easy, that's how things turned out in the end.

I was a bit upset, and I had a critical choice to make. You see, I had been renting the game, and only had had a limited amount of time before I had to return it. I could either go ahead with married life with Celia and continue to Chapter 2, or start a new save in order to get married to Nami. The latter option would be a huge waste of time of course, especially since the only benefit would be to get together with a different fictional woman...

So in my second save I focused only on Nami from the very start. I didn't give gifts to any of the other girls, only Nami. I made sure to grind it out and get her the items she loved best. She still turned down my proposals, but I was confident she would be my default bride because there were no other options. So the end of the year came, the cutscene with the knock on door started, and on the other side of the door was... Celia. Again.

I was flabbergasted. I hadn't even tried to woo her, but somehow Celia was still my most compatible girl. Apparently even the mere act of talking to her when I saw her like I did with every other villager was enough for her to get the uncontrollable hots for me.

I was pissed. I only had two days left on my rental and I was trapped with Celia as my bride. By this point I wanted to just give up. I had no time left to redo Year 1 again, and had wasted enough time on this anyway.

...so anyway, on my third save I decided to just speedrun the game, and I ignored basically everything about running the farm. I just focused on getting Nami her gifts and passing each day as fast as possible. I made sure to not even TALK to that psychotic bitch Celia at all during this run. I didn't speak one word to her, and would flee if I saw her walking down the street. Nami still didn't accept any proposals, and I reached the end of year on pins and needles. Finally, however, she showed up on my doorstep and decided to live with me. I had finally made it to Chapter 2 with the girl I wanted to marry, after all that work.

And then I had to return the game rental.

The moral of the story is, if you want to marry Nami you damn well better focus on her as early as possible or else good luck. Also, A Wonderful Life is like the worst game in the series.

Every failed proposal after the first one actually causes the girls to lose affection towards you, so you were actually shooting yourself in the foot by constantly proposing.
