It kills me when people say games, comic books, or scifi aren't political, as if they've literally never seen a second of it before. But to be fair, I doubt the people saying it now actually believe it. They just need something to redirect the base's rage.

It's not that they're political that bugs people. The complaint is just worded poorly/stupidly.
The difference was that "back then" the media didn't feel nearly as in your face preachy about it (usually), and the first priority was to be entertaining/fun/engrossing/etc... Plus, while there were plenty of games/movies/tv that were political, there were still far more that weren't, and now it just feels like an endless barrage of being beaten over the head with "THE MESSAGE" (insert critical drinker echoing sound effect). On that note..., the political themes used to be more varied while as now it's pretty much constantly the exact same message/themes.
