People can get really big tunnel vision on things like this, especially if it gets like, little bits of success (like being popular among disabled or elderly people for being accessible) to basically convince you to not give up hope - especially when you've been at it a long time and it starts being a sunk cost thing. You can't just give up after you've put so much effort into it.
