#29:

The existence of Democrats like Joe Manchin broadly undermines the Democratic brand. The Republican Party, by and large, has clear goals and generally does a good job of pursuing those (terrible, nefarious) ends.

The Democrats, meanwhile, are such an absurdly big tent that they cannot even be united on what is (at least according to polling) a political slam dunk that the party supposedly supports: protecting access to abortions. The vote itself was always going to fail, but the Democrats were decrying protests and (fictional) violence by their base as well, because mostly they're repulsed by the idea of peasants invading their upper class enclaves and protesting outside their mansions. They're entirely out-of-touch, and the one thing they are good at is punching left.

If the shoe were on the other foot, you would have Republican politicians implicitly (and even explicitly) calling for violence, and the party as a whole would generally be cheering the protests on to whip up enthusiasm.
