They have two ways of doing the surgery on the cervical spine, through the back, called a Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy, which is minimally invasive but only has about a 75% chance of success, or through the front, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion, which is nearly always successful but requires removing a portion of the bone then permanently fusing the vertebrae together. I only required a single PCF surgery. Football player Peyton Manning had the same kind of problem I did, but his first three surgeries were unsuccessful and he eventually had to have an ACDF.
