It seems like it's part of a larger push to equalize all opinions. If "protect minority groups" and "exterminate minority groups" are perceived as "equal" opinions, for example, then ultimately there is no moral or ethical compass to guide society. Instead, the loudest opinion becomes the "correct" opinion because, in a so-called "post-truth" society, there's no other way to determine what's real/fake or right/wrong. Whoever has the biggest megaphone gets to call the shots, since they can simply scream over everybody else and drown out any dialogue.

I have family members who are starting to dig their heels in deeper and deeper with this misguided notion that "all opinions are equally valid, due to Free Speech." And it's honestly terrifying. They have said reprehensible things about minority groups to me, and then just shrugged their shoulders because "it's only an opinion." My mother, in particular, loves what Texas is doing, in particular.
