He doesn't say his theory outright, but it's not hard to piece together a logic: women having more control over when and how they have children has enabled them to participate more fully in higher education and the workplace, competing for positions that men once would have had to themselves. In turn, women have fewer reasons to settle down and find a man who can financially support them (and any children), making the prospect of marriage less desirable.
