Song of Memories (PS4)

Aside from the obvious parallels with the COVID-19 pandemic despite being written 3 years prior to it, it's a very predictable storyline through half of the runtime then just veers off into a completely random direction. While it's definitely a unique story, none of the characters are anything special and are pretty much all walking anime tropes, and getting to an actual route takes a lot of character flag settings - you pretty much have to know which route you're going for from the very beginning of the game, and there's one event midway through the first half that is mandatory for every route. Fail that and you won't get any route and will either hit the joint or destruction endings. Fortunately, the chart function makes it easy to jump to any part of the story you wish, so once you've unlocked a route you can go to it at any time, and each route has multiple endings to unlock so this is a welcome addition. However, PQube did an extremely terrible job in its localization of this game, there's typos and awkward grammar everywhere and a whole scene and voice line didn't play because of an error in the code which actually showed up in the text box. The album controls are also horribly mistranslated - pressing the X button to 'revive' a screenshot? It's like no one actually tested the game in the first place.

I'll be finishing the other routes as I continue through it, but I definitely have not been impressed with the five endings I've received so far. Only one of them was actually memorable and actually explained some of the game's plot.
