It turns out I was able to sub-30 my last beaten but not subbed DK (IV) after all with no new tech (just a better strategy): https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/2/5/AAC7eiAADG1Z.jpg It turns out the key was just being more aggressive with Golbez; his awakening generates extra gauge (as long as he keeps his bubble), so I could use that in P1 along with Edges sync and just barely have enough gauge to cast both his sync and DA during wing wall.
