I decide I can quickly handle the Zaveid/Theodora fight. I get to the summit and find Theodora smacking Zaveid... and him enjoying it. Reminiscing of how she smacked him for his pickup line. Philosophical shit ensues. Eizen says "I do what I want" and Laphicet responds in kind by trying to - but failing - to protect Zaveid. Eizen then challenges Zaveid by asking if he's living right now, and that if his creed is to keep on living that this isn't a very good way of doing that. Eizen picks up Siegfried to use for himself.

The fight is... really easy. Like I had more trouble with the Fire Doe at the Fighal Icecaps than I did with this one, and that fight wasn't even worth mentioning. Much like the troll in Haria, the fight ends with a scripted Mystic Arte: Eizen's still-fucking-awesome Howling Dragon ends the job shortly after I sub him back in so he could do just that.

Zaveid tries to yell at him to stop and that he'd never forgive him, and Eizen doesn't care. I'm sure over the next thousand years, Zaveid will get over it and realize that it was because Theodora was no longer Theodora. She didn't even have that name in the fight! The malevolence emanating from her dying body starts to consume both men... and then Laphicet when he moves forward. This triggers Laphicet to eradicated the malevolence. All of it. He then tries to cure Theodora, but Zaveid stops him, knowing that even that won't help. Using Siegfried, Eizen finishes the job... but doesn't eat the dragon's heart. Zaveid epically rebuts with Eizen's own line: "Don't answer a question with another question." LOL.

Eizen says he can feel the malevolence within him and that he'll end up a dragon, which is a blessing in disguise since that curse is less to him than the one that's still giving him and his crew fits, and it's a just punishment for being a pirate. He says he'll probably hurt the people he wants to protect in that state, which means there's no doubt in my mind that it does happen to him in Zestiria. Zaveid agrees, recognizing that Theodora didn't recognize what she loved anyone, either, and that a mercy kill was the saving she needed. They then explain a huge amount of happenings in Zestiria: Zaveid killing Eizen after he's stopped being himself, in part as revenge for Theodora, and then marrying Eizen's sister. Since this doesn't involve the two idiot protagonists of that game, I believe it to be a minor spoiler. Zaveid says his true name is Fylk Zahdeya and Eizen says his is Ufemew Wexub... malakhim and their odd names, I tell ya. Fylk gets Siegfried back..

What it means to be alive... is to control the direction of our own lives, regardless of whether we get killed doing it or not. And I concur with that. That's precisely why I'm depressed: Because I feel like I have zero control in my life. I want to change that. I just don't have the money, the connections, the social abilities, or the luck to do so. And that gets me down. I need to fight it. I need to find a way... but enough about me. Laphicet is trying to take this to heart as best as he can. And Zaveid heads off, wherever the wind takes him... I presume that means this is the last we'll be seeing of him. Until Zestiria.

I wrap things up by going to the orphans in Taliesin. Zaveid stopped by, gave the parents a huge chunk of gald, and told the kids they'd always be together in their hearts because they're family. Zaveid always has a home here... even though he told them that Theodora's problems had been resolved and that he'd be traveling the world with her. That's not wholly untrue, but I think he didn't want the kids to know. They're only like 8 y/o. Too young to be thinking about death.

I overhear two exorcist thugs talking about transport units, and they mention having had their gald picked clean. GEE I WONDER. The party swiftly comes to the same conclusion I did: Zaveid robbed the Abbey of the money and put it to good use. Instead of the Abbey using it for something like smuggling opiates, which is probably what was up. Again.

After doing a huge equipment purge at Katz Isle (I've been doing a little here and there, but this took a while) and some slide puzzles to hoard Tales Coins, I conclude for the night.
