Video games are still relatively new in the grand scheme of things. For comic book superheroes, it took roughly forty years for Hollywood to put out a movie that treated the source material with respect. I think video games have had a similar path to travel. We may see our "Superman: The Movie" in the near future.

Detective Pikachu was fun and I've heard good things about Sonic -- which I've yet to sit down at watch personally. If animated movies count, Street Fighter and Super Mario Bros. have good anime adaptations. I do think we will eventually see good live action movies based on action-centric games and not just cute cartoon animal characters.

Of course, the question remains as to how gamers will react to them. Will they acknowledge that a movie with good acting, good storytelling, and good action is a good movie? Or will they pull a No True Scotsman and claim that it doesn't work because video games, and their spinoffs, must be interactive?
