He should have just disappeared from their timeline entirelyIt's tortured, but Banner and The Ancient One figured out that removing an Infinity Stone at a certain point in time created a branching reality. Their solution to this was to put the stones back at the moment they were taken as soon as the Snap was undone, so they would never have gone anywhere. After Steve put the Space Stone back, he just stuck around to find Peggy, which in itself created a new branching reality. The implication is that he didn't come back to the 'regular' timeline until after she died. --- "A person can be young and idiotic or old and sharp.
