I cannot figure out why the Russians haven't been able to gain air superiority over the Ukraine, they have such a clear advantage in tech and numbers. The only thing I can think of here is that the capabilities of modern surface to air weapons systems has reached a point where it's managed to blunt the effectiveness of air assets.

Regardless of how this war turns out it's going to force a lot of defense analysts to rethink traditional tactical doctrines. Which makes sense when you consider the fact that this is the first close to peer conflict since the Iran vs Iraq war.
