In that scenario, US could long term defend Ukraine basically indefinitely so long as the public support it. A straight fight with all cards on the table just between US and Russia, no allies? Russia doesn't have the naval power to invade the US so the war would strictly be in Russian/Ukrainian territory. So long as US has Alaska and can exert control over the Pacific, US can blockade the eastern half/majority of Russia and then focus efforts on the Western half.
