My son has a peanut allergy. I'd typically avoid getting something for him from a place like that, but if I were to get him something, I damn sure would mention his allergy and specifically request they use clean equipment and utensils when prepping his smoothie. It's not enough to simply request "no nuts", if that's in fact all this dude did

That said, even if I went through all that - requesting clean equipment etc - and my kid had a reaction, my anger wouldn't turn me into a violent racist. That dude is, at his core, a violent racist.

You don't commit acts of violence and spew racist hatespeech and then turn around and say "this isn't who I am" because you got fucking caught and are seeing the consequences of your behavior. No, motherfucker. That's exactly who you are.

Not saying he's beyond forgiveness or shouldn't be allowed the opportunity to grow and learn from this, but if he is truly going to learn from this, he needs first to accept that he had some deep-seated issues he needs to work through. Own that bullshit, dude. Apologize and say you'll work on becoming a better, more empathetic person.

See, this is where I disagree. If this was someone acting this way over, say, a bad drink I'd totally be on board. However when a parent has the life of their child threatened for any reason they tend to act very differently and aggressively in the name of their kid. I'm perfectly willing to believe that this guy isn't a racist or, if he is, keeps it suppressed and under control normally, but having the life of his child put in danger by, in his eyes, negligent and stupid immigrant workers (not saying they are at all and, even if they are, this doesn't justify his abusive attitude) pushed him past that line of control and possibly past ones he didn't even know that he HAD.

What he did was wrong. I'm not questioning that at all. Abusing retail workers is never right. I'm just disagreeing with the notion that he should be having his life ruined over it. These are extremely stressful circumstances with a parent who had the life of their kid threatened and he was retaliating against the people he saw as the perpetrators. This does NOT justify his actions (I want to restate that), but the whole 'fire him from his job because he lost his temper and said racist things when his kids life was put in danger' thing seems a BIT harsh and over the top.

I mean, if one of you had a loved ones life put in danger, don't you think you'd not only react in a similar manner (maybe not racism, but some other -ism or something as the situation applied?) but think you were justified, or at least not deserving of losing your job, over it?
