I'm guessing they used the Tree of Origins to preserve her from whatever destroyed Eternia, meaning that the flashbacks to her time as the Maiden of the Tree are leading up to that event, which I would've guessed. At any rate, this chapter's made it clear that whatever happened in Dana's past is connected to what's going on in the present.
