I recall that his full quotes on the subject was actually pretty reasonable (though, yes, a bit hypocritical given his own reactions) and not as negative towards Osaka as a snippet or two made it seem.

He's definitely had attitude issues throughout his career. I actually thought he was getting better and more likable for a while, but then the pandemic hit and his statements/actions (including hosting his own tournament with no masking or anything while most all other sports were shut down, which turned into a big spreader event) erased all the good will he was starting to build up.
