Dying your hair red doesn't actually make you a redhead (and yes, I know actresses dye their hair for a role all the time, and even Kirsten Dunst did it)...the thing is, by virtue of this casting, the characters are no longer natural redheads. Now they're just girls/women who dyed their hair red. It's a different feeling, that's all. lolife67 posted... you never complain about non-red heads as long as they're still white. Also, kind of an odd conclusion to draw. I don't mind other hair colors/ethnicities/etc. but it does feel weirdly reductive when nobody seems to mind that redheaded characters are getting weirdly targeted and scrubbed out of film representation lately.
