I think it's about the writers on the show rather than the show itself... Kungfu Kenobi posted... For most of the series the three of them lived with each other as housemates instead of with their parents, and they work an incredibly dangerous job which their lives are focused around. Aside from high school, they are effectively emancipated. I figured it was like a boarding school where they got permission to live off campus due to their spy duties.
