But they ARE still bad guys. They can show as much backstory and give us reasons to sympathize, but until an actual character starts to question "their path as a hero" or the like it doesn't really matter in the terms of the MHA world at large. Everything in the world is just too black and white in terms of the characters perception of the other side and because of this no one really questions their place beyond "I suck at doing x thing" etc.

I understand not every show has to have this "grey area" that certain characters fall into but I also know the author has made a spin off series which actually has these things and it's clear that even in the main line series he is thinking about it, but for whatever reason decides to keep both sides really separate.
