2. One of the snakes got a tail it could use as bait
3. This made it better at getting food as a different snake that couldn't do that
4. This meant it was more likely to survive and reproduce
5. Over thousands of years there's a lot more of those snakes
6. Some of those snakes have more convincing looking tail bait than others.
7. That makes those snakes better at getting food than other snakes with less convincing bait
8. That meant those snakes were more likely to reproduce
9. Repeat 5-8 for hundreds of thousands of years until you end up with spider looking tail
