From what I've seen from the western base and from personal experience, Cloverworks was on top of the world over here when people didn't really know or care about how much they cut out of their shows, but when they started adapting popular manga people actually read they went straight down the crapper. Horimiya, Shadow House, both suffered from the same issues this year, both shows that objectively are produced well and have pros, but have absolutely no intention of actually adapting the full material. Bunnygirl Senpai was still AotY back when it released, but I suddenly understand why there was a vocal number of LN readers who were saying it sucked.

I think Promised Neverland S2 is worse than you're giving it credit for, unlike the other Cloverworks messes it's actually just straight up a bad show, but as far as anime in general....yeah, of course there's plenty worse out there. It's just the most offensively bad of the year. Nobody cares that Ex Arm sucks. Meanwhile, Kaiu Shirai demanded his name be taken out of the credits for the last 3 episodes of PN S2.

Cloverworks getting their hands on Spy x Family is probably the most depressing anime news of the year.
