I read GD is the best way to go for the big picture if you're not intending to replay and I'm at chapter 10 there. It's a slow build up but I kinda think I see where it's going.

If I have one issue so far, it's that most people you recruit from other houses come useless right out of the box, and I feel like it kind of pigeonholes you into routes to actually use those characters properly.

Ingrid turned out to be the one and only exception to this rule, and I picked her up in Chapter 7. C Swords C+ Lances D Flying is "ok" for C7, but the key is it actually had a direction. She had good stat spread that let her both double almost everything and be reasonably bulky. She didn't take much to pull up at all. I also recruited Ashe in C7, and he was an unsalvageable disaster from the start. Three chapters later, Ingrid has one of the highest BSTs in my party, and you can barely even tell I recruited her that late.

I just wish more characters actually came to you with potential. I feel like the game really locks you into your starting characters + the Church characters. Catherines and Shamir are basically gift wrapped quality characters that need little work.
