Dragonriders of Pern Thread Literature Medium A mindless fungus-like creature that seeks out organic life. If it reaches habitable ground, it will burrow itself and spread rapidly. Contact with it causes similar symptoms to burns as it digests the flesh. It doesn't burrow terribly deep, as little life is found more than a few meters beneath the surface, so toxic chemicals and intense flame can generally kill it in local regions. It enters the arena falling from the sky towards a viable patch of earth.
